This project involves the design of the new Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Department within the existing "PTOLEMAIDA MEDICAL" center, housed in a three-storey building with a central atrium.
The department is located on the second floor, accessible via stair and elevator, with its entrance opening to a space overlooking the atrium. Two central, large circular columns visually fragment the area, while the floor is pre-divided into four rooms using plasterboard.
The proposal aims to spatially and visually unify the area and redefine obstacles as opportunities. The reception desk is repositioned around the first visible column, turning it into a focal design element. The second column becomes part of a waiting area, bordered by an open planting zone. The design draws inspiration from the human body—fluid, organic forms and curving lines dominate the space, deconstructing rigid boundaries. A curved shell wraps the existing partition wall, softly delineating the medical zone.

The reception desk is a key design experiment, generated using algorithmic design tools (Grasshopper). Parametric curves in multiple axes define its form, which is fabricated via laser-cut metal ribs and thermoformed Corian to handle the extreme curvatures.
In contrast, the treatment rooms embrace precision: linear forms, strict geometries, and a tactile palette of birch wood, white plaster, black marble, mirrors, and controlled lighting. Special attention is given to ceiling design—since patients are typically lying down, the ceiling becomes their primary visual experience, integrating light, reflection, and material texture to support calmness and care.
